What is the typical lifespan of an air-con unit (residential)?

About 8-10 years, if maintained properly.

How long do you take to install a full unit of air-conditioner?

Depending on the system needs to be installed; it can range from 5-8 hours.

Is a Window Unit air-con more energy efficient?

Window unit is not energy efficient and is soon to be an obsolete product in the market.

How do I find out what air-conditioner capacity is required for my room or premises?

A professional air conditioning sales consultant would be able to advise you the required BTU needed relative to the area size that needs to be cooled.

How do I choose the right type of air-conditioner for my house?

What is an Inverter air-conditioner?

Inverter air conditioners have a variable frequency drive that incorporates an adjustable electrical inverter to control the speed of the motor and thus the compressor and cooling output. Because it eliminates the start-stop cycles that is part of normal air conditioners, it is more efficient hence energy saving and reducing electrical bills.

My air-con unit sometimes turn on and off by itself with the indicator light flashing, what could be the problem?

It could be due to faulty PCB or wiring problem. Please seek professional help.

Ice is forming on the pipes of my condenser, what should I do?

This is due to insufficient gas.

My air-con Unit is noisy, what could be the problem?

Wear and tear due to long term usage can loosen parts in the fan coil or compressor thus producing noise. Greasing the parts does not guarantee to resolve this problem.  Another possibility is the fan coil cover is not closed properly.

The room becomes smelly whenever I turn on the air-conditioner. Is there anything wrong?

Dust and bacteria trapped in the AC filter or the inner system can produce foul smelling air. It is advisable to perform a chemical servicing to thoroughly cleanse the system.

Water is leaking from my air-con Unit, what could be the problem?

Jelly could have built-up in the piping if it’s an old AC hence servicing is required. If the AC is fairly new, it could be due to gradient problem of the piping.

Do I need to get a permit from HDB for Air-con installation?

There is no requirement to apply a permit for AC installation.

My bedroom is no longer cool whenever the air-con is turned on, what should I do?

There could be several possible reasons. Firstly check on the remote if the setting is correct. It should be in cool mode. Secondly, it could be time for routine servicing if you have not done so for the last 6 months. If the first 2 reasons do not apply, then it could be a gas leak or other technical reasons. Please seek professional help.

Is there a need to service the outdoor condenser too? How often should I service it?

It is not necessary and if needed, once a year would suffice.

Chemical servicing is a major cleaning of the fan coil whereby it is taken down into parts and thoroughly cleaned. Just like major over haul. It is ideal to conduct a chemical servicing once a year.
